I was traveling with my family from Kothamangalam to Ernakulam. After reaching home late at night, my wife suddenly realized that her thali (mangalsutra locket) was missing from her chain. As many would understand, this is not just a piece of jewelry—it holds deep emotional and cultural value in Indian tradition. It was already past midnight, and we were completely exhausted. But seeing how distressed she was—almost in tears—we immediately started searching everywhere: the car, our bags, and the house. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find it. I tried to comfort her and suggested we rest for the night and continue searching in the morning. We also decided to contact the places we had stopped during our journey. There were only two stops—a restaurant and a petrol pump in Kakkanad. The next morning, we tried calling the restaurant but couldn’t reach anyone. Then I found the petrol pump on Google and called them. The person who answered was extremely polite and patient. I explained where we had stopped and what had happened. He honestly said he wasn’t sure if it would be there, but assured me that he would ask the staff to check and call me back. To be honest, I had very little hope at that point. But within just five minutes, I received a call: “We found it.” That moment is hard to describe. We were overwhelmed with relief and happiness. My wife had tears in her eyes—this time, tears of joy. Later, we went to the petrol pump and met the manager, Amal, in person. When I thanked him, he simply said, “It’s a thali, right? I understand how important it is.” That one sentence meant everything. This experience truly touched us. It reminded us that honesty and empathy still exist in abundance. The gold itself may have been small, but its value to us was priceless—and we were fortunate to find people who understood and respected that. A heartfelt thank you to Amal, the staff who found it, and the person who answered my call. And also, thank you to Hindustan petroleum for having such wonderful and trustworthy people on your team.
